Awaiting life, or a life in waiting?

Kisi mausam ka jhaunka tha
Jo is deewar par latki hui tasveer tirchhi kar gaya hai
Gaye sawaan mein ye deewarein yoon seeli nahin thi
Na jaane is dafa kyun inmein seelan aa gayi hai
Darare pad gaye hai aur seelan is tarha baithti hai
Jaise khushk rukhsaaron pe geele aansu chalte hain

Ye baarish gungunaati thi isi chatt ki munderon par
Yeh ghar ki khidkiyon ke kaanch par ungli se likh jaati thi sandese
Dekhti rahti hai baithi hui ab, band roshandano ke peeche se

Dopaharen aisi lagti hai, bina mohron ke khaali khaane rakhe hain
Na koi khelne waala hai baazi aur na koi chaal chalta hai

Na din hota hai ab na raat hoti hai, sabhi kuch ruk gaya hai
Woh kya mausam ka jhauka tha, Jo is deewar par latki hui tasveer tirchhi kar gaya hai?

(seeli= moist,khushk=dry, rukhsar=cheek, munder=parapet , roshandan=lamp, mohra=pawn)
The brilliance of Gulzar at play from the movie Raincoat as he describes a life in waiting, halted at its footsteps, frozen in time, waiting for someone to urge time to move forward.

The songs are great. Haven't seen the movie yet :-( Apparently even Ash's acting is upto the mark.
Recent reviews of Kisna say that the British actress does the best job, and that Vivek Oberoi is so-so (but I haven't seen the movie meself).

Yup, I have seen it recently. It released a few weeks back. Geetanjali, I think some of the dialogues were gems (especially Ajay's interaction with Mouli Ganguly's character), but in general, the standard rose and dipped. I think it has a lot to do with Rituparno Ghosh's inability to understand the language. Yet, I liked the movie overall (I could see the O'Henry inspiration :-) Won't give any spoilers here).

Was almost going to go for Kisna first day first show but couldn't make it on time. I think I saved some money. Shall wait for the DVD to see it.

RTD2, thank YOU too, for all the same reasons and much more :-)

Oh, and btw, Ash is good in spite of some inconsistencies. I can think of a couple of actresses who would have been mind-blowing in this role, but I applaud Ash's career move.

For what it's worth..I saw Kisna yesterday and was disappointed. On the bright side, I had no idea what a brilliant find Isha Sharwani is - not so much as an actress, but as a dancer and a fresh face. I have no idea how anyone could execute some of her acrobatic moves, and some shots are very artisitically filmed, but other than that, the movie pretty much stinks.
Can't say that about Raincoat however. I had heard nothing but negative things about the movie but I still wanted to watch it, and boy, how glad am I to have followed my instinct! This is as subtle and poetic as I have seen cinema get in a looong time. I had a good cry and a good think over it, and in my books, that makes it a brilliant movie!

One of the best films ever. Very very poignant. I think everyone would like to hear the Nazm in Gulzar sahab's own voice.
Here is the full nazm in his voice:
